Du Pain et des Idées
Christophe Vasseur's 1875-listed bakery on rue Yves Toudic, pain des amis, escargots, no shortcuts.
Canal locks + neo-bistro wave east, Le Servan, Le Galopin, Du Pain et des Idées.
The 10e runs from Gare du Nord and Gare de l'Est down to the Canal Saint-Martin, the Récollets locks, the iron footbridges Verlaine wrote into the canon, and the cafés-on-canal-side strip from Quai de Valmy to Quai de Jemmapes. Le Servan (Tatiana and Katia Levha, 2014) and Le Galopin opened around here a decade ago and pulled the neo-bistro tide east; Du Pain et des Idées on rue Yves Toudic remains the bakery the gezgin plans the visit around. The gezgin uses the 10e for the casual dinner with bottle on the towpath edge, and the post-Eurostar lunch that doesn't push back into Saint-Honoré formality.
