On Plaza General Vara del Rey in the heart of El Rastro, this family tavern opened in 1977 has grilled sardines as its near-religious specialty, with calamari and fried peppers alongside a properly pulled caña or vermut. Hardly changed in décor, jammed on Sunday-market mornings, fast and friendly. The quintessential Rastro-edge ritual the barrio keeps for itself.
