Chef Utku, an MSA-trained industrial engineer turned chef, built a cult following with southern Italian flavors. One of the first Italian restaurants to put Moda on the gastronomy map, Il Sud remains a neighborhood anchor.

Southern Italian, which means tomato discipline and olive oil restraint, both of which the kitchen actually has. Order the orecchiette with cime di rapa and the catch-of-the-day; skip the truffle plates entirely as those are the touristic concessions. Reserve for 20:30 weekdays.
