Modern Dutch all-day dining at the Pulitzer in Nine Streets
Nine short canal-laced streets dense with owner-run independent shops.
The Negen Straatjes are nine short streets that lace the canals between the Singel and the Prinsengracht, each only a block long but packed with small independent shops. This is the part of the canal belt that rewards browsing on foot: vintage clothing, single bookshops, cheese counters and tiny cafés wedged between the bridges. Because the streets are so short, you cross a canal every minute or two, which is the whole pleasure of the place. It is touristed but still genuinely owner-run rather than chained over.
