Crete's seafaring history inside the Venetian Firkas Fortress
Housed in the Firkas Fortress at the mouth of the old harbour, the Maritime Museum traces Cretan and Greek naval history from antiquity through the Battle of Crete, ship models, instruments, photographs and a shipbuilding annex. It's a substantive cultural stop that also explains the Venetian-Ottoman fabric of the city around it. A real museum, not a perimeter attraction.
