The Brook Street Art Deco grande dame — afternoon tea in the Foyer, a Foyer Bar by Bryan O'Sullivan, and the most famous lobby in London.
Claridge's has been the alternative to the Connaught for a century, and the choice tends to come down to temperament: more theatrical, more public, more Art Deco glamour, more recognisable. The Foyer afternoon tea is still the institution it has always been; the new(ish) Painter's Room and the restored Foyer Bar are more interesting than the headline restaurant. The lobby alone is worth the stay.
