The Yeatman
Duas estrelas sobre o Douro, com a mais profunda garrafeira de Portugal
The Douro's south bank, where centuries-old port lodges age their wine beneath terraces facing old Porto.
Across the Douro from Porto proper, Vila Nova de Gaia is the river's southern bank, where the great port lodges have aged their wine in dark cellars since the eighteenth century. The names painted across the warehouse roofs read like a wine list, Taylor's, Graham's, Kopke, and below them the quayside has become a promenade of tasting rooms and terraces facing the city. This is the place to drink vintage and tawny at the source, often paired with a meal that looks back at the Ribeira and the bridge. At the top of the hill, the dining turns ambitious, with cellar-deep wine lists and views that take in the whole of old Porto.
