Ali'nin Yeri Ildırı Balık
On the water's edge of antique Erythrai — three generations of family balıkçı in the peninsula's quiet north
Antique Erythrai harbour fishing-village north-east of Çeşme
Ildırı is the small fishing village twenty kilometres north-east of Çeşme, built on the ruins of antique Erythrai — the Ionian city whose oracle Herophile rivalled Delphi's Pythia. The chapter treats Ildırı as the peninsula's cultural-archaeological corner: a small harbour, an antique city on the slope above, two rooms that earn it, and a sunset over the takımadalar that the southern peninsula simply doesn't have. Less developed than Şifne, less yacht-trafficked than the marina; the village kept its scale because the road in is still narrow.
