Varka Alaçatı
Alaçatı
A family-run raki-and-fish meyhane at the bazaar mouth where you bring your own bottle
The village's oldest rakı-fish table, run by the same family since 1950
Reşat Akbaykal opened Martı in 1950, decades before Alaçatı became a name that travelled beyond İzmir, and the family still runs it: third-generation Cumhur and fourth-generation Umut work the floor while İpek Akbaykal handles the kitchen. It sits on a quiet 11005 lane off the main square, near the Pazaryeri Mosque and the corner café, with the day's catch on ice and an Aegean meze spread that follows the season rather than the menu. This is the rakı-balık table that locals point to when they want continuity rather than spectacle, the place that predates the bazaar's reinvention and never traded its identity for it. Cold rakı, fresh fish, mezes done the old way, and a family that has been pouring it for four generations.
