Glyfada

Southern-coast Riviera — beach clubs, fish tavernas, the summer axis

Glyfada is the southern-coast suburb on the Athens Riviera — tram-end, marina, the old Hellinikon airport site to the east, organised beaches running south to Vouliagmeni. The dining is summer-anchored: beach-club restaurants, fish tavernas on the coast road, the long lunches that pull Athens out of the centre between June and September. The gezgin uses Glyfada for the southern-coast summer day — beach club lunch, tram back, dinner downtown — and for the year-round fish tavernas the locals never stopped going to. The Kifissia-Glyfada axis (north-suburb vs south-coast) is one of the structural choices the Athenian summer makes.
