Monastiraki
Monastiraki design-and-courtyard cultural venue — coffee by day, cocktails by night, programmed concerts.
Praxitelous all-day cocktail bar — top-50-bar canon, Athens' canonical drinks address.
The Clumsies opened in 2014 on Praxitelous between Syntagma and Monastiraki, in a converted three-storey neoclassical, and entered the World's 50 Best Bars list the same year — has held a top-ten position several cycles since. Vassilis Kyritsis and Nikos Bakoulis run the program. The ground floor is the casual front room (espresso from 10:00, lunch plates, the standing list); the back room is the more serious cocktail bar with the seasonal menu; the first floor is the private dining and tasting space. The crowd here uses The Clumsies as the canonical Athens drinks address — the first booking on a multi-day trip, the structural reference point for the rest of the city's bar scene.
Book the back room for the seasonal cocktail menu — the front room runs the standing list and is busier. The Praxitelous block is well-lit and walkable from Syntagma metro.
