River Café DNA, hotel-restaurant comfort — Tuscan cooking on Park Lane
Theo Randall ran the River Café kitchen for seventeen years under Ruth Rogers and Rose Gray before opening his own room inside the InterContinental on Hyde Park Corner in 2006. The food is his and theirs — wood-roasted scallops with chilli and rosemary, hand-rolled cappelletti in brodo, whole turbot baked in the wood oven. The dining room has none of the River Café's industrial drama, but it has Park Lane address comfort, white linen, and a sommelier who actually knows central Italy. Lunch sets at fifty pounds remain one of Mayfair's quietest bargains. After almost two decades, Randall is still on the pass most evenings.
The lunch prix fixe is the entry point — the same kitchen, half the bill. Anything from the wood oven (turbot, suckling pig, scallops) is non-negotiable. Sit near the open pasta station if you can.
