Marché de la Libération
The real Niçois produce market under the old railway
The everyday market quarter where Niçois shop and eat, anchored by the morning stalls and the Gare du Sud food hall.
North of the centre, Libération is where Niçois actually do their daily shopping, around the long covered-and-open market of the Avenue Malausséna and the restored Gare du Sud, now a food hall under its glass-and-iron canopy. The crowd is more local and more mixed than downtown, the prices fairer, and the cooking spans North African, Italian and proper Niçois without much fuss. It rewards a morning wander more than a planned destination meal: cheese, charcuterie, a coffee standing at the counter. The tram makes it an easy hop from Masséna, and it stays busy without ever feeling staged.
