Gandi'nin Yeri
Bornova meyhane institution since 1966
An inland university district with student cafés and surviving Levantine mansions.
Bornova is a large inland district whose character comes from the university and the legacy of the Levantine merchant families who built grand mansions here in the nineteenth century. The student presence keeps the cafés, casual eateries and bars busy and affordable through the week, while a few of the restored Levantine houses survive as a reminder of the older İzmir. It is everyday and unscenic compared with the coast, but useful for a relaxed coffee or meal away from the tourist seafront.
