Barceloneta
Seaside, salty and traditional

Barceloneta

A former fishermen's quarter of narrow blocks by the sea, known for seafood and city beaches.

Built in the eighteenth century to rehouse residents displaced by the new citadel, Barceloneta is a tight triangle of narrow blocks pressed against the sea. It keeps the identity of a fishermen's quarter, with laundry across the façades, vermouth bars and a deep tradition of seafood and rice cooked plainly and well. The long promenade and city beaches run along one edge, busy in summer and bracing the rest of the year. For all the visitors, the daily life of the barri still turns on its market, its squares and the sea at the end of every street.
