Kuzguncuk

Asian-side village with painted wooden houses, artisan bakeries, and four houses of worship

Kuzguncuk is a small Asian-side valley that opens onto the Bosphorus with one of the few remaining multi-faith streetscapes in Istanbul: a mosque, synagogue, Armenian church, and Greek Orthodox church all stand within a few hundred metres of each other. Icadiye Caddesi is lined with painted wooden houses, independent bakeries, and design studios that took off in the 2000s after the neighborhood featured in several Turkish TV series. A community garden on the former Ilya Bostanı still grows vegetables for residents, keeping a village rhythm in the middle of the city.
