Çeşme After Dark: Courtyards, Capes and Vineyard Tables

Mes Prestiges Editorial Team ·

Çeşme does romance in three registers: the lamplit stone courtyards of Alaçatı's Hacımemiş quarter, the water-edge tables where the sun drops behind Chios, and the hillside vineyard rooms above Ovacık. The peninsula is small enough that you can build an evening across all three. What follows are the tables worth dressing for — the ones where the room does as much as the kitchen.

Alaçatı's Stone Courtyards

The stone village keeps its most romantic rooms in 1800s Hacımemiş houses, where olive trees, candlelight and old walls do the work no designer could fake.

  1. Kapari Bahçe

    Hacımemiş · Aegean Greek · $$$

An 1800s Hacımemiş courtyard set under olive trees — by common agreement the village's most romantic stone-house dining room. The cooking is Aegean-Greek, the lighting is low, and the walls carry two centuries of patina. It is the address you book when the dinner is the occasion. Reserve the courtyard, not the indoor tables.

  2. Ark Alaçatı

Hacımemiş · Wine bar with live jazz · $$$

A stone-walled Hacımemiş room where wine, live jazz and Aegean cooking share the same evening, with Ozan Musluoğlu directing the music. It is romance with a soundtrack — intimate, grown-up, unhurried. The pacing rewards a long dinner. Come for the late set and let the kitchen feed you between numbers.

  3. Babushka Alaçatı

    Alaçatı · Russian-Mediterranean · $$$

Olga and Özgür's Turkish-Russian courtyard kitchen, where two grandmothers' recipes met under pomegranate and lemon trees. The garden is small, candlelit and genuinely personal — a date-night room rather than a scene. The cooking is warm and unusual for the village. A quietly charming alternative to the obvious choices.

Water's Edge: Cape, Şifne and the Sunset Line

The peninsula's most cinematic dinners sit on the water — the Yıldızburnu cape, the Şifne shore and the Çiftlikköy seafront, all facing the sunset across to Chios.

  1. Ritüel

    Şifne · Modern Aegean / contemporary Turkish · $$$$

Tolga Kamiloğlu's contemporary Aegean kitchen on the Şifne seafront — an accomplished, design-led room right on the water. The cooking is modern and precise, the setting unashamedly romantic at dusk. It is one of the most polished date-night tables on the north shore. Time your reservation for the last of the light.

  2. Mâzi Yıldızburnu

    Ilıca · Cape seafood · $$$

Sertan's small seafood room on the Yıldızburnu cape, with tables at the water's edge and a kitchen sharper than the modest setting suggests. Prices still make sense by Çeşme standards. It is intimate, low-key and genuinely on the sea. The cape evening without the resort-coast theatre.

  3. Salonis

    Çiftlikköy · Aegean seafood · $$$

The Yılmaz family's Çiftlikköy seafront since 2009 — arguably the quietest Çeşme fish table, looking straight across to Chios. The romance here is the stillness: water, a long meze, the lights of the island coming on. A table for couples who want calm over crowd. The sunset view does the heavy lifting.

Vineyard Tables Above Ovacık

Inland, the Ovacık and Tokoğlu vineyards turn dinner into a slow hillside ritual — set menus, estate wine and the sea somewhere below the vines.

  1. Agrilia at Buradan Vineyards

    Ovacık · Vineyard set-menu · $$$$

Melih Teksen's long-running Alaçatı institution, transplanted to Buradan's organic vines — a set menu with pairings served among the Grenache rows. Dinner unfolds slowly as the light goes down over the vineyard. It is romance with intent and a wine list to match. Take the pairing and surrender the evening to it.

  2. Çakır Winery

    Tokoğlu · Vineyard restaurant · $$$

A late-arriving Tokoğlu estate with the most accomplished vineyard kitchen on the Urla route — a wood oven and an Aegean-Italian menu among the vines. The hillside setting is made for a long, wine-led dinner for two. The cooking holds its own against the view. Book a terrace table at golden hour.

Build the night to the light: vineyard or cape first, courtyard and a nightcap after. Çeşme is small enough to let you have both.
