Kruger's American Bar
Innere Stadt
Innere Stadt cocktail room since 1995 — the night-after-the-opera anchor.
Landstraße natural-wine bar with one of central Europe's deepest Austrian growers list.
Heunisch & Erben opened in Landstraße in 2017 — a wine bar and small-plates kitchen built around what the team has spent two decades collecting: an Austrian-focused cellar of roughly 3,000 references, deep verticals on Wachau Smaragd and Burgenland natural growers, and the kind of Sturm-and-Drang attitude to what counts as wine that the natural-wine register made commercially viable. The kitchen plates work as wine accessories — a Bündner Fleisch with horseradish, fermented Salzburg Pinzgauer beef, oysters with Riesling — rather than as a full restaurant menu. Forty seats, open until late, the staff bookable at the bar for tastings off the list. The Landstraße location keeps it slightly off the central-Vienna tourist trail.
The right move is to arrive at 19:30, eat a few small plates, and let the somm at the bar guide a five-glass tasting through Wachau Smaragd into Burgenland Blaufränkisch. Book ahead for Friday or Saturday.
