Wirtshaus in der Au

A 1901 Wirtshaus on Lilienstraße that decided dumplings were a craft worth a dedicated kitchen. The Knödelkurse (dumpling courses) are real — they teach you to make Semmelknödel and Spinatknödel here — and the menu carries through the discipline: schnitzel from Schwäbisch-Hällisch heritage pork, lake trout, Tafelspitz, monthly waltz nights and jazz evenings under the wood beams. The Au itself is the residential Bavarian district on the Isar's east bank south of Haidhausen the audience would never stumble onto by tourist accident.
