Schwabing is the historic Bohemian quarter north of Maxvorstadt — Thomas Mann, Kandinsky, the Blaue Reiter circle all lived and wrote here. Today the broad Leopoldstraße runs through cafés, the Münchner Freiheit transport hub, and the spillover from the Englischer Garten beer gardens (Chinesischer Turm, Seehaus). Tantris on Johann-Fichte-Straße is the chapter's three-Michelin-star anchor; the surrounding streets carry the literary-café register Munich never replaced.
