Nobelhart & Schmutzig
Kreuzberg
One Michelin star, one Green Star — Berlin's most radical sourcing programme.
One Michelin star — Berlin's only dessert-tasting menu, on Friedelstraße.
Coda is the dessert-only tasting menu room René Frank opened on Friedelstraße in Neukölln in 2016, and the only restaurant in the Michelin Guide Germany whose programme is built entirely around dessert. Seven or eight courses, savoury components used as bridging seasoning rather than as primary, no refined sugar, the protein-and-fat structures of cooking technique applied to ice creams, fermentations and grain. One Michelin star since 2018. The room is small and dark; the format reads as a deliberate provocation that the guide accepted.
The only one of its kind. The bay's reader that books this is buying the format as much as the food — the answer to 'what does Berlin do that nobody else does' includes this room on the answer set.
