Hotel Bayerischer Hof
Altstadt-Lehel
The grand dame of Munich since 1841
King Maximilian's hotel on Maximilianstraße
Commissioned by King Maximilian II in 1858 and still the most regal address on Munich's grand shopping boulevard — 297 rooms behind a neo-Renaissance facade where the Bavarian aristocracy and visiting royalty have been signing the registry for 168 years. Schwarzreiter (one Michelin star) reinterprets young Bavarian cuisine; the rooftop spa and indoor pool look across rooftops to the Frauenkirche. The doorman, the porters, the concierge desk all run on a quieter, more European rhythm than the corporate-luxe properties that have arrived since.
Request a Maximilianstraße-facing junior suite if shopping is the trip's purpose — rooms over the courtyard are darker. Schwarzreiter's lunch menu is one of the city's better Michelin-star value plays.
