Hofbräukeller am Wiener Platz

Not the tourist Hofbräuhaus on Platzl. This is the Hofbräukeller — the brewery's original keller, perched on the Wiener-Platz hill in Haidhausen, with a 1,400-seat self-service beer garden under century-old chestnut trees and a 400-seat bedienter section for sit-down service. The kitchen does the proper Bavarian core (Schweinshaxe, Obatzda, Spareribs, Stockwurst) without the Lederhosen-show theatre. On weekends a Bavarian band plays in the garden. The Hofbräu helles is poured fresher than anywhere downtown, and you'll be sitting next to actual Münchners.
