Where to Eat in London?

London has the deepest starred-dining bench in Europe outside Paris — roughly 85 Michelin venues across the spread, from old-guard hotel grills to ten-seat counters in Soho basements. The density itself is the story; you can plan a four-day trip and never repeat a kitchen idea.

Mayfair concentrates the polished international scene — Hélène Darroze at the Connaught, Sketch, Alain Ducasse at the Dorchester. Indian fine dining (Gymkhana, Trishna, Brigadiers) is its own category and worth the trip. Japanese (The Araki, Sushi Kanesaka, Endo at the Rotunda) runs to the edge of what the form can do. British modern (Brat, St. John, Lyle's) is where the city sounds most like itself.

Michelin Density

Three-star rooms are rare and stable — Restaurant Gordon Ramsay, Hélène Darroze, Sketch's Lecture Room — but the depth at one and two stars is what makes London structurally different from a single-anchor scene. Expect tasting menus £180-450 at the top tier.

Reservation Tips

Three weeks works for most starred rooms; six weeks for the cult counters and Friday-Saturday at the Mayfair flagships. Don't overlook Sunday roast — the upper tier of pubs (The Harwood Arms, The Bull & Last, The Hawksmoor) does it as a serious format, not a tourist gesture, and books up by Thursday.
