1897 Belle Époque café with daily live music — protected room in Hotel Mariandl
Belle Époque survivor under coffered red-and-white ceilings and crystal chandeliers since 1897 — the oldest still-operating café in Munich, in the protected ground floor of Hotel Mariandl. Live piano or chamber music from breakfast through midnight, students and professors at the back tables, a working breakfast buffet in the morning and proper dinner in the evening. The Beethovenplatz square outside is one of Munich's last quiet Wilhelminian pockets, ringed by stuccoed townhouses and old chestnuts. A place that survived because nobody renovated it into oblivion.
Munich's oldest still-operating café (1897). Live music daily from breakfast through midnight. The Beethovenplatz Belle Époque pocket is one of Munich's quietest squares.
