Café Luigi Tambosi
Altstadt-Lehel
Munich's oldest café since 1775 — Italian roots, Hofgarten terrace.
Sixth-floor café on Marienplatz — direct sightline to the carillon.
Café Glockenspiel sits at Marienplatz 28, sixth floor, with windows that look directly across to the Neue Rathaus tower and the Glockenspiel carillon — the eleven and twelve o'clock chimes happen at eye level from the front tables. The room is sober, white tablecloths, an all-day menu of breakfast, Italian-leaning lunches and a competent wine list. The room earns its position with the view, not the cooking — but the cooking is honest, and the booking strategy of arriving thirty minutes before noon lets you eat through the carillon. Reservations recommended for the front window in season.
