Hofpfisterei am Viktualienmarkt
Altstadt-Lehel
Bavaria's bread house since 1331 — flagship counter across from the Schrannenhalle.
The full Eataly market hall inside Munich's restored Schrannenhalle, on Viktualienmarkt.
Eataly Munich runs the entire Schrannenhalle — the restored 19th-century grain hall directly off the Viktualienmarkt — as a single Italian food universe: a market floor of small-producer pasta, salumi, formaggi and wine; a fish counter and a meat counter with seated lunch; a pizzeria; a bakery; a regional-rotation Italian restaurant with changing menus by region; and a basement cooking school. The format is the export-model Eataly built in Turin in 2007, but the Munich operation is the German flagship and the most architecturally interesting room — the iron-and-glass Schrannenhalle is itself a monument. Open seven days, breakfast through late dinner.
Two distinct visits in one address: the market floor for olive oils, balsamico, pasta, salumi to take to the apartment; and the upper restaurant for a long Italian lunch. The Schrannenhalle architecture itself justifies the walk-through. Pair with the Viktualienmarkt outdoor stalls (Caspar Plautz, the cheese hall, the beer garden) for a half-day food crawl.
