Alois — Dallmayr Fine Dining
Altstadt-Lehel
Two stars upstairs at Munich's 320-year-old delicatessen.
The Käfer family's 1930 Bogenhausen institution — gourmet rooms above the delicatessen
Käfer is Munich's gastronomy dynasty, and the Schänke on Prinzregentenstraße is its dining heart since 1930. Comprehensively renovated in 2025, the upstairs warren of named themed rooms (a Hemingway room, a hunting room, a wine room) sits above the famous delicatessen at street level. Cooking is Bavarian-French at its most polished — venison, Bresse poularde, classic sauces — by people who treat the room as the city's living room. The place to take your visiting Turkish family for the dinner that says 'this is Munich at its most itself'.
The Schänke is upstairs; the Feinkost shop downstairs is a destination on its own — buy oil, truffles, the salt-cured fish for a Bogenhausen picnic. Reserve a specific themed room when you book; the 'Bogenhauser' and the 'Hemingway' are the warmest. Ask if Michael Käfer is on the floor — he often is.
