MICHELIN Young Chef Award 2026 — Duru Akgül's restored olive-oil mill on the Reşadiye Peninsula
Yakamengen III sits inside a 150-year-old olive-oil mill in Yaka köyü, on the Knidos road out of Datça, and is the room the MICHELIN 2026 selection used to mark Duru Akgül as Türkiye's Young Chef of the year — the first woman to take the award. Akgül trained at Avusturya Lisesi and Johnson & Wales, ran kitchens in Boston, Chicago and New York, and brought the discipline back to a kitchen garden of her own: chamomile, capers, prickly pear, purslane, lesser-known Aegean fish, no ingredient repeated across a course. The setting is mill-stone, garden, dinner under olive trees; the cooking is the most serious thing happening on the Reşadiye peninsula.
It is a one-and-a-half-hour drive west from Datça merkez along the Knidos road; that is the point. Reserve well ahead in August and ask to be seated in the garden under the olive trees rather than inside the mill. Akgül cooks the seasonal tasting; let her lead.
